Ladies of Letterpress

dedicated to the proposition that a woman's place is in the print shop

Welcome to Ladies of Letterpress

Hi All! Welcome to the Ladies of Letterpress community, a place where you can read about our adventures in commercial, fine-press, and zine printing, ask for advice and learn from other printers, share resources, and get inspiration for your own business and work--all for the love of letterpress. Our mission is to promote the art and craft of letterpress printing, encourage the voice and vision of women printers, and to stimulate discourse within this community. We strive to maintain the cultural legacy of fine press printing, advance letterpress as a living, contemporary art form as well as a viable commercial printing method. Anyone is welcome to join, and membership is 100% free.

There is a lot to do here: using the tabs above, you can make your own page for other Ladies of Letterpress to see, start your own blog, ask questions or post topics in the forum, and post videos and photos of your own work.

In addition to building this community, we plan on attending book and craft fairs, having meetups and collaborative projects, and finding ways to help others through letterpress printing and the book arts. If you would like to be a guest blogger, contact us with your idea; posts will appear here and on the non-ning site, ladiesofletterpress.blogspot.com.

Who are we? Jessica is an MA and MFA holder in printmaking from the University of Iowa, and proprietor of Heroes and Criminals Press. Kseniya is the owner of Thomas-Printers, a commercial letterpress and design shop, and YonderYest, a letterpress wedding stationery company.

Is nothing sacred anymore?

OK, folks, there are some things I just can't keep my mouth shut about. The Home Letterpress Machine is one of them. All I can say is shame on you, Paper Source.

THIS IS NOT LETTERPRESS. This maybe can create letterpress-looking, or letterpress-ish, or letterpress wanna-be things, but to call this Letterpress - without any note of "not really but you can pretend" is an… Continue

Ladies of Letterpress at the National Stationery Show

Next May, Ladies of Letterpress will have a booth at the National Stationery Show! This is great, of course, but we (for I'll be there too) wouldn't have been exhibiting there as a group without the great organization that is Ladies of Letterpress, which is now made up of over 300 printers worldwide (yay!). The Stationery Show is a great opportunity to promote LofL and bring it to a wider audience and public forum, and we want to make sure that the members are also well-represented. We're discus… Continue

You got me at "Shame on you Paper-Source". I almost barfed on my monitor when I got that email this morning and considered closing my account with WNP because of it. Disgusted!!!!

Personally, that brayer business would send me right over the edge. Seriously though, I think Kseniya is right about the scrapbooking aspect. From the video is looks like it would be time suck to produce multiples of one motif, let alone a two or ...

Stuff like this is all the more reason we need to get the word out about the real people who letterpress print the real thing and that the end results are very different between what we do and this, this fake?
